Assignment: Earth spin-off of Star Trek

Image
This is one I have thought about for a while and when I heard about Teri Garr's passing, I figured I would continue in earnest. Star Trek's second season ended with a "backdoor pilot" for a possible series that could have been America's answer to Doctor Who. While travelling back to 1968, the crew of the Enterprise meet an enigmatic character named Gary Seven. The episode is mostly about him and is actually an origin story for a possible series. The episode even ends with Spock saying that "Mr. Seven and Miss Lincoln (Garr's character) have some interesting experiences in store." It was not, however, picked up as a series so I imagined a DVD cover if the series was made and added some ideas of what stories be used. I also figure Gold Key would do a comic of it so I created an imaginary 1960s comic cover as well. Here is fan made opening credits for the series that doesn't exist, to give you an idea: Assignment Earth Opening (Improved)

Hard Knocks 1987

This might be my most esoteric post yet. The "what if" is two-fold: what if "Hard Knocks" was put on DVD and what if anyone remembered the show. It was a Showtime original series starring Bill Maher that aired from April to August of 1987. Chris Thompson created it after he co-created "Bosom Buddies" starring Tom Hanks for NBC. He went on to create "The Naked Truth" starring Tea Leoni for ABC and "Action", the wildly inappropriate and funny series starring Jay Mohr for Fox. Shout Factory released some of my favorite cult series on DVD so I figured after Bill Maher became famous with "Politically Incorrect" they would be the ones to give the show a second life. The series had one of the great all time opening themes: https://youtu.be/P_Cd4hpltzA?si=8VqI_nK4Uehp2HLL BTW, the cover art is by my friend Stefan Boales. He has written and drawn some great books for all ages available on Amazon Kindle. Check him out.

Galaxy Quest tv series first season DVD

Image
I saw the movie Galaxy Quest  in 2000. As a Star Trek fan I could appreciate the parody but also the performances by everyone involved were great. The movie has actors who played heroes in a television space opera being pulled into space by aliens that think they are really the characters they portrayed and high jinks ensue. For this post I wanted to show what a DVD release of the first season would look like if the series was real. https://youtu.be/4kIavuY5NXw?si=dT70SXzyk5UtTpoY
