Leap Dave Williams 2012 Jim Carrey

Image
The series "30 Rock" did a lot of movie spoofs. Usually starring characters from the show like Tracy being Honky Grandma Be Trippin' or Jenna in The Rural Juror but in the episode "Leap Day" they showed clips of a fictional movie starring Jim Carrey and Andie MacDowell. In the 30 Rock universe Leap Day is a big holiday with traditions and the USA network runs a Leap Dave Williams marathon. Since Leap Day is on Thursday I thought I would make this fantasy cover to honor it. here are some scenes from it: https://youtu.be/uK0KTH0ezgc?si=A0RXt0s9qvaWR-kV

WHAM! Sons of Jack and Albert 1990

Image
Wham! were huge in the 1980s. When they broke up George Michael's career soared. Even though Andrew Ridgeley was half of Wham! when I would mention his name people would ask "Who?". If I replied he was "the other one from Wham!" people understood. The same year Michael released L isten Without Prejudice Vol.1  Ridgeley released his solo album Son of Albert . I chose three of Ridgeley's songs for this: "Shake" (which was a single from the album), "Baby Jane" and "Red Dress" (which has Michael on backing vocals). https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCHnLE0OxajFoVCvBXRdUERbUvRqe2RNk&si=JrjyUkQfyxejE1Dl

classic heroes in tights part 2 (not to be taken seriously either)

The Green Lama started as a pulp character in Double Detective magazine in April 1940 moving to comics in the December 1940 issue of Prize comics. He was drawn in the outfit he wore in the pulps: green Tibetan robe over his everyday suit. By the time he got his own comic book he was wearing a cape and tights. Doc Savage started in the pulps with his first story "The Man of Bronze" in 1933 and moved to comics in The Shadow comics in 1940. In the pulp stories he usually wore a brown business suit. Soon he had his own comic title and in issue 5 he received a blue hood with a mystic ruby in the forehead. His costume became leather boots, tight blue pants and that hood with bare chest and arms. That's a good start but not "superhero" enough. I've added blue gauntlets and special "science" goggles that let him see infra-red, ultra-violet and whatever else the writer wants. Most importantly he gets full tights with a logo on his chest; the alchemy symbo

classic heroes in tights part 1 (not to be taken seriously)

As superhero comics became more popular in 1940s the "cape and tights" look became the standard. When the Crimson Avenger first appeared in Detective Comics the year before Batman, he wore a suit, fedora, overcoat and mask. He carried a gas gun and had an Asian sidekick. Soon he was wearing red tights and cape. Sandman originally wore a green double-breasted suit, fedora, cool gas mask and a cape. His weapon of choice being a gas gun. At the end of 1941 he, surprisingly, no longer had a cape but now wore purple and yellow tights. The character they seemed to be based on was the Green Hornet. He wore a suit, fedora overcoat and mask. What if he followed the trend? I got inspiration not only from the Crimson Avenger and Sandman but other insect based heroes of the time, the Red Bee (I didn't make that up) and Yellow Jacket.  Obviously the Hornet should have a striped costume. I added a split cape that could look like hornet wings when in action. Above you can seen my vers

Fleetwood Mac Mystery to Me with Buckingham Nicks 1973

This is another pre instead of post album. Mick Fleetwood asked Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham to join the band after record producer Keith Olsen played "Frozen Love" for Fleetwood.  Olsen had recently engineered it for the Buckingham Nicks album.  So, what if Mick asked them to join and folded them into the band in 1973? Instead of the duo releasing a solo album, their songs would be included on Fleetwood Mac's Mystery to Me . I removed Fleetwood Mac's cover of the Yardbird's song "For Your Love", "Just Crazy Love" and "Forever" to make room for "Frozen Love", "Don't Let me Down Again" (which Fleetwood Mac would play on tour) and "Crying in the Night". Another song from the Buckingham Nicks  album, Crystal, would be re-recorded by Fleetwood Mac in 1975. https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCHnLE0OxajH6vojw393-ushvWJbK9cmT&si=fQeYAF4LaD0dzuLb
