Queen Hail, Freedonia 1983

      In early 1983 Freddie Mercury started working on songs for what would become his first solo album, Mr. Bad Guy. Brian May worked with some other musicians, such as Eddie Van Halen, for the EP Star Fleet Project. Queen's drummer, Roger Taylor, was recording his solo album Strange Frontiers. Bassist John Deacon was collaborating with Man Friday & Junior Jive.
      Taylor's album had Mercury contributing backing vocals on one song, May playing rhythm guitar on another song and Deacon on bass on a different song. I originally wanted to use all three songs for this unofficial Queen album but in their discography there were usually only three songs where Mercury was not the lead singer so I chose "It's an Illusion' (with Deacon) and "Man on Fire" (with May) from Strange Frontier. Since I had two from Taylor that left one for May: "Let Me Out". The rest of the songs are from Mr. Bad Guy except for "She Blows Hot and Cold" which was the B-side to "Made in Heaven". However, the version I chose of "Made in Heaven" and "I Was Born to Love You" are the versions that the rest of Queen added their parts to Mercury's vocals.

 Since a new Indiana Jones movie is coming out I think it is good time to revisit the first one. However this is the one that almost was. Most people know Selleck was originally cast but there were a lot of changes before it was finally filmed. The synopsis on the back of the DVD cover above will cover some of them. I first heard about Toht's mechanical arm when I got the book "Raiders of the Lost Ark: the Illustrated Screenplay and page 87 had a storyboard drawing of a very different Toht than we know today.  The illustration I used for the front cover is from an old Playboy and I believe Joann Daly is the artist.

  Wham! were huge in the 1980s. When they broke up George Michael's career soared. Even though Andrew Ridgeley was half of Wham! when I would mention his name people would ask "Who?". If I replied he was "the other one from Wham!" people understood. The same year Michael released L isten Without Prejudice Vol.1  Ridgeley released his solo album Son of Albert . Panic Room Nicole Kidman 2002

  Panic Room is another movie that could have been quite different looking than what we know today. Before Jodie Foster was cast in the led Nicole Kidman had already filmed for three weeks but had to leave because of an aggravated knee injury. Before she became from the tv series "Heroes", Hayden Panetierre was set to play the daughter but was replaced by Kristen Stewart before she made it big with Twilight . One other surprising bit of original casting is that Dwight Yoakam's role was originally offered to Tool's lead singer Maynard James Keenan. Director David Fincher had wanted him after directing Keenan in a music video.
