Sherlock Holmes: A Musical Portrait

      These are songs that remind me of the great detective, Sherlock Holmes. I open the album with a song named after him, but instead of the original from Sparks, I used a cover version. I followed Holmes with Watson. Then to the street where they rent a room from Mrs. Hudson. Queen Victoria, I felt should be represented if only for Holmes' indoor shooting practice in "The Musgrave Ritual". Reichenbach Falls was the site of Sherlock's death (don't worry, he got better). When thinking of Holmes and Watson I imagine the foggy streets of London Town where these private eyes are looking for clues. Of course, for Holmes it's elementary. It's so simple that I included a song of the same name from a stage musical called Baker Street starring Fritz Weaver. I wrap up the whole affair with the title music from BBC's "Sherlock".

        Many a person on the internet has come up with "what if The Beatles stayed together" so I was going to avoid this. Years ago, a co-worker and I talked about this idea and, dog gone it, it keeps going through my head, so here we are. Everest was what Abbey Road was going to be called. Since they didn't use it then I figured they could use it on their next album. John Lennon's Plastic Ono Band  from 1970 has Ringo on drums. I chose two songs from the record, "Working Class Hero" and "God" (which has Billy Preston ((from the Get Back sessions)) on grand piano. Spinal Tap - Shark Sandwich 1980

       I've used Spinal Tap before on this blog (Loving Large, The Fantastic 80s, The Singing Sixties and The Namesake Series of audiobooks) and to honour their new movie, I present SHARK SANDWICH, the album with the two word review. The front cover is the from the movie, the band photo was taken by Bob Gruen at CBGB's and the back illustration and design is by me.      To make a playlist I used "Sex Farm" from the This is Spinal Tap soundtrack and "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare" which can be found on their Back From the Dead album. I also used two songs from other heavy metal parodies: "Drink Till I Die" by Bad News from the series The Comic Strip Presents and "Black Moon" by Strange Fruit as seen in the movie Still Crazy. The Beatles - Live at Madison Square Garden

       After 1975 John Lennon wanted to spend more time with his son Sean and less time with The Beatles but that didn't mean there wasn't a new album in 1976. After recording Blast From Your Past , McCartney suggested a tour again. They settled on one live performance at the end of 1975 in New York City so John could go back to the Dakota afterwards. In this alternate reality a live album of the event would released in 1976.      In reality, John joined Elton John at Madison Square Garden for three songs on 28 November 1974. All three songs can be found on disc three of the Lennon  box set from 1990. Paul played the Garden with his band Wings in May of 1976. Selections from the tour were on the triple album Wings Over America . George Harrison played with Ravi Shankar at the Garden in December of 1974.
