The IT Crowd (American version)

     The original IT Crowd show would be hard to duplicate. The American network NBC, however, tried in 2006. The pilot recruited Richard Ayoade to reprise his role as Moss and Joel McHale was cast as Roy, the part originated by Chris O'Dowd. I like Joel McHale, he was great on Community, but as loser nerd Roy? The original script was used for the American pilot and it suffers from comparison. I felt the same way about the American version of The Office, and yet as the show went on, they let characters grow and change into something different that worked for their cast. Maybe the same would have happened with The IT Crowd but it didn't make it past a pilot, There was also a German adaptation in 2008 that lasted six episodes.

       I've used Spinal Tap before on this blog (Loving Large, The Fantastic 80s, The Singing Sixties and The Namesake Series of audiobooks) and to honour their new movie, I present SHARK SANDWICH, the album with the two word review. The front cover is the from the movie, the band photo was taken by Bob Gruen at CBGB's and the back illustration and design is by me.      To make a playlist I used "Sex Farm" from the This is Spinal Tap soundtrack and "Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare" which can be found on their Back From the Dead album. I also used two songs from other heavy metal parodies: "Drink Till I Die" by Bad News from the series The Comic Strip Presents and "Black Moon" by Strange Fruit as seen in the movie Still Crazy. The Beatles - Live at Madison Square Garden

       After 1975 John Lennon wanted to spend more time with his son Sean and less time with The Beatles but that didn't mean there wasn't a new album in 1976. After recording Blast From Your Past , McCartney suggested a tour again. They settled on one live performance at the end of 1975 in New York City so John could go back to the Dakota afterwards. In this alternate reality a live album of the event would released in 1976.      In reality, John joined Elton John at Madison Square Garden for three songs on 28 November 1974. All three songs can be found on disc three of the Lennon  box set from 1990. Paul played the Garden with his band Wings in May of 1976. Selections from the tour were on the triple album Wings Over America . George Harrison played with Ravi Shankar at the Garden in December of 1974. Songs of Edgar Allan Poe

           Albums are oft put out of assorted artists covering songs of a certain songwriter. I remember when I got Red Hot + Blue in 1990, which had modern musicians doing Cole Porter tunes. Since Halloween is this Friday I wanted to do an album of songs using Edgar Allan Poe's words. The first rule I set for myself was no more than one song from any artist. Buddy Morrow, Spectral Kaleidoscope and Glass Prism did complete albums based on Poe's work. Alan Parsons also did a complete record of music influenced by Poe but did not use any actual lines written by him. Second rule was the songs had to use Poe's words.
