Danger Girl movie with Charlize Theron

     Danger Girl was a comic created by J. Scott Campbell and Andy Hartnell for Image Comics. It debuted in 1996 and the intention was to make a comic that felt like an action movie. Instead of the comic credits being on the first page, they appear after a prelude to the story as a two-page spread designed to look like the opening credits of a James Bond movie. One of the characters is even drawn as Sean Connery. When the Avengers cast Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, it was because that was how the character was drawn in the Marvel comic "The Ultimates". The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was a movie based on a comic that made Connery quit acting. What if he did a different comic book movie? Would he continue acting? Who knows? 

    Although the head on the cover is Charlize Theron the body is of a cosplayer named Becky that was photographed by Michael Rodriguez at San Diego Comic Con.

       When the movie The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the Eighth Dimension ended, there was a teaser that he would return in Buckaroo Banzai Against the World Crime League . The small but loyal fan base waited but, mostly because of one man (look up David Begelman), that didn't happen. Rumours would pop up once in a while that Rauch and Richter (the people behind the original) were working on a sequel. Rauch did write a comic book version and a novel for the sequel, which were different from each other. This is my take on if Buckaroo got the respect I think he deserved and the sequel got made in the '80s.

Violin Music of Sherlock Holmes

       My last music blog was based on the A. Conan Doyle's character Sherlock Holmes. As he is inextricably linked with the violin. I decided to put together another music post on him. In the first Holmes' story, "A Study in Scarlet", Watson mentions "that he could play pieces, and difficult pieces, I knew well, because at my request he has played me some of Mendelssohn's Lieder, and other favourites." In "The Red-Headed League", Holmes and Watson attend a concert of Sarasate at St. James' Hall. In "The Adventure of the Mazarin Stone" Holmes say he is going the other room to play the Hoffman Barcarolle on his violin. Sherlock often plays pieces by Bach or Mozart, he prefers German music to French or Italian, he tells anecdotes of Paganini and he wrote a monograph about Orlando di Lasso. Songs of Edgar Allan Poe

           Albums are oft put out of assorted artists covering songs of a certain songwriter. I remember when I got Red Hot + Blue in 1990, which had modern musicians doing Cole Porter tunes. Since Halloween is this Friday I wanted to do an album of songs using Edgar Allan Poe's words. The first rule I set for myself was no more than one song from any artist. Buddy Morrow, Spectral Kaleidoscope and Glass Prism did complete albums based on Poe's work. Alan Parsons also did a complete record of music influenced by Poe but did not use any actual lines written by him. Second rule was the songs had to use Poe's words. Thirdly, only one version of any poem. Lastly, I wanted it to be a variety, I could have done a complete death metal version. Songs of Edgar Allan Poe - YouTube
